Dosage Forms – Sometimes it the standard pill or capsule will not work for a particular customer.  The customer may be too young to swallow the capsule or pill or the customer may be unable to swallow at all.

• We can often times make medications into liquid forms that are easier to swallow, we can also flavor these medications to a variety of flavors

  • At Scott’s Health Mart Pharmacy we can compound many capsules and creams into topical gels that can be applied directly to the skin and still achieve a systemic response.  We have done this for special needs children that are extremely “finicky” about taking medication as well as hospice patients that are unable to swallow

Dyes and excipients – All commercially available tablets and capsules have dyes and excipients (known as inactive ingredients) in them.  Many people may be allergic or extremely sensitive to these in active ingredients.

• At Scott’s Pharmacy we can compound these same products without the dye or the excipient that the particular customer is allergic to.

Hard to Find Medications - Often times there are a disruption in the manufacturing of a particular medication that results in a shortage in the market place.  Some medications are discontinued due to the fact that it is not cost effective to the drug company to continue to make these medications

• Many times we can get the bulk powder of the hard to find medication and compound the same dose so that customers can continue to take the therapy that has worked for them
