During winter months, the sun is not out as long and due to colder temperatures, people are not out in the sun as long.  Some researchers actually believe that the cold and flu season should actually be named the “Vitamin D Deficiency” Season.

Another study looked at school age children and Vitamin D.  In this study school aged children were divided into 2 groups.  One group received 1,200 IU of vitamin D daily while the other group did not.  The children that received vitamin D were 42% less likely to come down with the flu.  Also in children with asthma those children that did not consume vitamin D were 17% more likely to have an asthma attack during that time.
